"It is often said that there are two types of brides: those that choose videography and those that wish they had."  A professional video recording of your wedding is a way to truly capture every precious moment of the day and relive them for years to come.  Mike Henriques, owner of Artistic Wedding Video Group, based in Newport,  wants to capture your special day in an equally extraordinary way.

With 14 years of experience in the video industry, Mike immediately fell in love with the energy and fast pace of shooting weddings. "You provide the story and we mold it into wedding films and videos," Mike says.  A common misconception of videography is that it's just an expensive version of a home video.  However, the truth is that the final product is really more of a movie when creatively produced.  It's a creative and entertaining representation of the wedding day.
In fact, a recent bride and groom were so touched by Mike's representation of their day that they were both moved to tears right in his own office as they all viewed the video.  And that's exactly the kind of thing that makes Mike so passionate about what he does. "The tears of joy that our work provides to our customers. The love that is captured in the special moments of the day and in the words that are said and recorded by us, is how we capture the emotions of a marriage.  It's in the wishes passed down in the toasts, the special looks that are exchanged by the newlyweds, and the love of the family and friends of the bride and groom," he says.
Many brides let their budgets keep them from choosing videography, but Mike believes a video of your wedding day is invaluable. He advises against having your friends or family shoot your video; they are guests and they want to act like guests.  Also, not every videographer is a creative shooter, which can make the difference in the way it is represented: "It's first about telling a great story and then finding the most appropriate way to execute it."
Owning a professional video of your wedding gives you the opportunity to relish those moments you never want to forget, and remember all of the details for a lifetime. Don't be someone who looks back and wishes she had; after all is said and done, a wedding viedo is something you will be happy to have.-CM
Mike looks forward to meeting you at the Newport Bridal Show!

Jennifer Neves Photography

Of all the choices you must make for your wedding day, the selection of photographer is unquestionably one of the most important.  Once the day is over and all is said and done, your precious photos are what you'll have to remember for years to come.  Photographer Jennifer Neves has the talent to capture the essence of your wedding day in a beautiful and unforgettable way.

For Jennifer, photography was a passion from an early age.  Today, as she photographs weddings, Jennifer says she enjoys capturing those special looks, glances and smiles of the day.  Her style is honest and timeless, though she keeps on the cutting edge with newest materials and equipment.

Jennifer has a wealth of exciting ideas for shooting your wedding day and can truly capture that "Newport feel" of your wedding.  Her favorite locations include those with the Newport Bridge as a background. "How much fun to have sailboats floating about with the bridge as a back drop! Nothing says New England more than that!!" she says.  Jennifer's ingenuity also prepares her to quickly adapt to New England's unreliable weather. This past season was so wet and rainy that, "I gave up on hoping for the best and turned it around," she says,  "I ran out and purchased a bunch of really colorful umbrellas and went for it! Some of the most fun and interesting shots this past season were with the umbrellas!"

Jennifer offers her expert opinion on color options: "Black and white has been a very popular request for years.  By taking color out of an image, what remains is the emotional portion of the picture, the facial expressions tell the story."
You can also opt to have an engagement shoot with Jennifer, which is special and helpful allowing the couple and the photographer to get acquainted.  Such photos can also be used in the dĂ©cor of the wedding, for example as seating cards or as a guest book.  Boudoir sessions are another unique option, which make a fun present to give the groom! Post wedding services ranging from album designing to maternity and family photos later on are also available.

Jennifer says her favorite wedding moment is always, "when a groom loses his breath and starts to cry the first time he sees his bride... it gets me every time." Her advice for couples before their big day? "Try to remember what is important to you instead of trying to please everyone else." As your photographer, Jennifer keeps this in mind, ensuring you and your fiancee are happy with how she preserves the memory of such a special day in your life. -CM
Jennifer looks forward to meeting you at the Newport Bridal Show!

Say “I-Do“ with a Beautiful Hair-Do!

Hair By Lea

Say “I-Do“ with a Beautiful Hair-Do!

10 Tips to prepare you for your hair and makeup for your wedding.

1. Make an appointment to have a trial hair and makeup done at least a month before the wedding. That way you know what to expect on your big day. Bring any pictures of ideas and your head piece.

2. Make sure your hair is freshly colored or highlighted about a week before the wedding. Do not make any extravagant changes to your cut or color unless you have time to adjust to it before the wedding, or just wait till after the wedding.

3. Get plenty of rest, it’s a long day and you want your skin to look as radiant as possible.

4. Shower before you get your hair and makeup done. Steam from the shower will frizz your hair and streak your makeup.

5. Do not wash your hair the day of your wedding. The dirtier the hair the better the updo stays in. If your hair is very greasy and you Must wash it that day, be sure hair is 100% dry before your appointment.

6. Be sure that skin is clean and free of any lotions and makeup.

7. Remember to wear a button down shirt. You will ruin your do trying to pull a shirt over your head.

8. Bring all accessories: veil, pins, combs, flowers, anything that you think you might be wearing.

9. Always bring extra spray and pins for those just in case moments.

10. Purchase lipstick or bring your own lipstick you plan on wearing for touchups.

Now that you look beautiful, have fun and congratulations!

Our advice when designing your wedding, make it personal to you and set your own trends

Rustic Romance

Details with Love

Some of our favorite ~ Wedding Style and Trends for 2010

"This years focus is on elegant, personal affairs and when it comes to bridal wear...vintage is vogue. Our advice when designing your wedding, make it personal to you and set your own trends; For inspiration, check out these top trends you’ll see in 2010."

Details with Love ~ wedding consulting & event planning

1. Back to Basics
Events will focus on the attention to the details, the foundation of the event, not the drama or grandeur of the evening. Consider spending more on the lasting memories than the showmanship of the event. Spend a bit more than the average budget allotment on photography mediums rather than abundant upgrades, you’ll be grateful for your decision in the end.

2. Home Weddings
Intimate and personal affairs at a private residence are bigger than ever. This incorporates the continued trend of personalizing the wedding day experience.
Smaller size guest lists, more intimate settings, grass roots weddings, elegant and detail driven, but in no way small on what counts.

3. Buttercream vs Fondant
Tools and techniques now allow for buttercream to look as smooth as fondant when applied by a skilled artist. You have the option of better flavor, more natural ingredients, and less costly cakes that no longer suffer or lack in design.

4. Favor Comeback
Personalized appreciation is back. The effect that an event has on the guests is more noticeable than ever before so the importance of a favor is felt more than ever. Be sure to appreciate to those in attendance - it’s not just an afterthought, omission, or generic item. Think local artisans, locally grown products, personal mementos, and fun on-the-spot print outs like photo booths.

5. Nearby Destinations
The ever popular destination wedding will remain but guests will get out of town by car (within driving distance) so couples can create a wedding weekend, guests get an escape, but no one breaks the bank. Enjoying the destination locations, spend within your own local economies, create a greener effect, experience undiscovered backyards, and stay sensible about cost while you’re at home.

6. Colors
Monochromatic palettes - this doesn’t mean muted colors, just single color bunches. Vibrant Colors: Orange, green, yellow, and pink. Metal Colors: Gold, silver, copper, and pewter. And black is definitely the new black. Go ahead...Break the rules!

7. Greener Conscience
You will see more emphasis on the smaller changes that are less recognizable to the guest … It’s no longer about making the event appear “organic” – it’s about understanding how things are made, disposed of, and where/when events take place. Learning to make better choices that are unseen by the guest are just as important as the recycled invitations everyone is talking about.

8. Video Integration into Events
I know what your thinking…We’ve all seen the photo montages of your childhoods during dinner but the next phase in video at your event comes in several different forms. Video DJ’s, allowing your dance party to dance to the visuals of the music videos; ceremonies are being broadcast on screens for better viewing from the back; and time lapse photography is being shot and integrated into video for current day montages of you and your fiancĂ©.

9. HD Video
Videographers have already gone hi-def. But next year all or most will make such a transition, making HD and even Blu Ray the norm in wedding videography. Upgrade now and appreciate the quality later. This also means smaller cameras on site and less intrusion into your event, all around a better option on the big day.

10. Vintage Style!
When it comes to bridal wear...vintage is vogue.
A vintage theme winter wedding, or a wedding with a little vintage touch is not necessarily as pricey as many would imagine. The concept can be achieved by either going fully vintage, or just adding a touch of vintage with things such as vignette of vessels adorned with flowers to compliment the design.
